Section 36:2, 9 km
A cultural history walk edged with the remains of the ancient iron trade and an intricate system of dams, in countryside that today resembles wilderness. Halfway to Gälkhyttan, the Sörmlandsleden trails branches off into yet another circular route. The northern stretch is two kilometers shorter, but the southern stretch is much more interesting and also passes a beautifully situated shelter. You are now in Pilhyttan Nature Reserve (89 hectares) surrounded by mixed bird-rich coniferous forest. Spring flood water is still stored in the dam lakes, making the water level high in summer. Follow an old railway embankment to Lake Gälkhyttan.
Please note that camping is not permitted within the nature reserve and that you may only light fires in the prepared fire places by the Sörmlandsleden trail shelter.
